I’ve hiked the trails of The Conejo and Santa Monica Mountains for nearly thirty years and still am surprised at the gems I discover.

Little did I know that this fabulous trail is right in my own backyard and has some of the most incredible views of Thousand Oaks, Wood Ranch, Moorpark, and even the Channel Islands.

The trailhead is at the east end of Sunset Hills Blvd at the gated entrance to private million-dollar homes.  It literally looks like a Disneyland trailhead complete with a windmill and a huge parking area.

This is a true urban trail mixing beautiful open space with crossing roads and hiking along back yards.  There is no shade so bring plenty of water but the views are a knockout!

There are several great things about this trail.  It’s a true trail and not a wide fire road, yet it is groomed well and easy to walk.  But don’t be fooled.  There’s plenty of elevation to get a good workout!

The full loop is ~ 4 miles and covers 1,100 ft elevation.  It is perfect for mountain biking, hiking, jogging, and even horseback riding.

The best part is you can bring your dog!  This is a great trail for your dog on leash which is permitted in the Conejo Open Space parklands.

To the left of Sunset Hills Blvd, the trail heads toward Bard Lake (AKA Wood Ranch Reservoir.)  A barbed fence runs along part of the trail protecting the reservoir and looking like a de-militarized zone.  But hey, it’s an urban trail.

The Woodridge Trail hooks up with a larger network of trails that connect through Lang Ranch into Chesbro Canyon and Bell Canyon.

Grab some water and your dog, and check it out!
